Day 1 Our adventure begins as we travel east over the Darling Ranges. After a morning break at the historic township of York we continue our journey south. Our lunch stop will be at Wave Rock, where there is the opportunity to have a look at this amazing rock formation. After lunch we drive further South to the Fitzgerald River National Park, an internationally recognized world biosphere reserve with plenty of beautiful beaches, rugged coastline and the opportunity for a short walk or swim.
Our evening meal and overnight accommodation is with a fascinating person, Mary Richardson, who will explain how she built her straw house, manages a tea house while providing a feast of natures own foods and bush foods from the district. (LD)
Day 2 After a morning drive along the coast we arrive in Esperance with time to have a look around. A short drive brings us to the Cape Le Grand National Park where we set up camp only metres from a picture postcard beach. The afternoon is free to explore this stunning coastal park with its white sandy beaches and crystal clear water. You may like to do one of the magnificent coastal walks or go for a swim, boogie board, snorkel, fish or just relax and read a good book while lying on a pure white beach, you might have to share with a couple of locals, kangaroo's that is. Day 3 A morning hike up the granite formation known as "Frenchman Peak", rewards you with stunning views of the bay and islands of the Recherche Archipelago. Afterwards we head back north to the Eyre highway to start our journey east bound to experience the vastness of Australia's Nullarbor Plain which will give you a sense of the size of this vast and ancient land. Day 4 The Nullarbor Plain is the largest solid piece of rock in the world and is internationally recognised for its hidden treasures beneath the ground. It has an internationally recognised cave and lake system. Today we travel through some diverse Australian country, have a look around Eucla - an old telegraph town buried by sand dunes and stop for the night at Koonalda Homestead. (BLD)
Day 5 Today we see the majestic Nullarbor cliffs and stop at the famous wombat/camel/kangaroo road sign. In season [June – October] the Southern Right Whales migrate to the Head of the Bight. Up to 100 of these amazing mammals can be seen from the scenic lookouts. Outside of the whale season you will not be disappointed with the spectacular coastline and viewing platforms that showcase the majestic Nullarbor Cliffs. After a stop at Ceduna Aboriginal Center we visit Murphy's Haystacks –incredible granite rock formations sculptured into wondrous and weird shapes over millions of years. (BLD)
Day 6 Our first stop will be Bairds Bay to board the MV Investigator for a 4-5 hr cruise [optional experience $150]. It's a relaxing day on the boat, viewing and swimming with dolphins and Australian sea lions.
After that part of the day you have some awesome fun sandboarding on our way to Coodlie Park Farm Retreat - a unique accommodation and experience facility - where we finish the day of with a nocturnal wildlife and stargazing tour. (BLD)
Day 7 This morning we go to the Colton Bakery - a unique wood fired bakery on the side of the highway with an honesty pay system. We meet Mark the owner of Colton Bakery and walk through this interesting bakery. We have lunch at Elliston's Great Ocean Tourist Drive with stunning sculptures which contrast against the Investigator group of Islands in the back ground. We travel to Locks Well and admire the view and the man made 291 steps down to the Locks Well beach. This afternoon you have the opportunity to swim with Bluefin tuna - it is like swimming with lightening as these unique fish go into a frenzy while being fed as you snorkel your way around the ring! Camp overnight at Mikkira Station to sleep amongst the koalas. (BLD)
Day 8 Today is an extreme day of fun! Those that dare come face to face with the Great White Shark on a day tour [optional experience $495] which includes a video highlights of your experience. Those not wishing to be quite so extreme head out and learn to surf with Kingo - an Eyre Peninsula legend who has given up teaching students in school to now teaching learn to surf up and down the Eyre Peninsula coastline. So we head out on to a beautiful deserted beach and spend the next two hours mastering the surf breaks. After visiting Whalers Way Conservation Park for some more spectacular and stunning coastlines, this tour is followed by a visit to Glen Forest Wildlife Park. (BLD)
Day 9 As we depart, probably worst for wear, we head through Whyalla, then into Port Augusta and the Wadlatta Cultural Centre - an interpretive and interactive visual explanation of the formation of Australia, the Flinders Ranges, the Pioneers and the Nullarbor. From here we go into Alligator Gorge in the Southern Flinders Ranges where we do our last bushwalk. If time permits we visit a winery in the Clare Valley before heading back into South Australia's capital city Adelaide. (BL)
